Height: This evergreen shrub grows to 12 ft. tall.

Habitat: Grows best in dry to moist soil in full sun to full shade. More shade the greener the leaves stay.

Foliage: Think, sharply pointed, dark green leaves that are yellow, orange, red to purple with more sun exposure.

Flowers: Small yellow flowers form clusters at the end of branches and can bloom as early as February but usually March through May.

Fruits: Blue, edible berries.

Bark: Brown gray bark.

Natural Habitat: Found in open areas.

Why is it good for my garden? Tall Oregon grape is a great evergreen plant for hedges or just a specimen in your garden. Bright yellow flowers bloom early in the year and the color is appreciated at the time for us but is used for food by early pollinators. Birds enjoy the berries and you can too. Best way to eat these that we have heard is in jam and pies.
