Height: This deciduous shrub can grow to 5 ft. tall.
Habitat: Grows best in wet to moist soil in full to part sun. Tolerates salt spray.
Foliage: Lance shaped, green, fragrant leaves.
Flowers: Small yellow flowers form in clusters in catkins and bloom April through June.
Bark: Brown bark.
Natural Habitat: Found in coastal bogs to swamps and wet areas.
Why is it good for my garden? Sweet gale is a great plant for wet areas and is a nitrogen fixer for the soil. Great habitat for birds. This plant was traditionally used for bedding since the wonderful fragrance would keep bugs away.
