Height: This semi-evergreen, rhizomatous, fern can grow from 1 to 3 ft. tall.

Habitat: Grows best in moist to well drained soil in full to part shade. Grows in big leaf maple trees and on rock mostly.

Foliage: Delicate, triangular, many lobed green fronds.

Natural Habitat: Found on tree trunks and logs and in moist banks. Usually found in big leaf maples.

Why is it good for my garden? Licorice fern is a pretty fern for wet shady areas. Can be drought tolerant after established. The roots to this fern can be eaten cooked or raw and have a slight licorice taste.
