Height: This deciduous tree can grow from 40 to 150 ft. tall.
Habitat: Grows best in moist to wet soil in full to part sun.
Foliage: Alternate, heart shaped to oval shaped, shiny, fragrant, green leaves that turn.
Flowers: Aromatic spring buds, yellow flowers, dropping catkins.
Bark: Light gray bark.
Natural Habitat: Found along stream banks and wet forests.
Why is it good for my garden? Black cottonwood is a fast growing tree with brittle wood and shallow roots. The wood on this tree has been used for smoking meats traditionally.
