Height: This deciduous tree can grow from 30 to 50 ft. tall and form thickets.
Habitat: Grows best in moist to well drained soil in full to part sun.
Foliage: Alternate, oval shaped, flat, shiny, green leaves that turn yellow in fall and make a fluttering sound in the wind thus its name "quaking."
Flowers: Some flowers, catkin, do form and but not many.
Fruits: Female plants will send out cottony seeds.
Bark: Thin, smooth, greenish white to cream bark that becomes brown and scaled when older.
Natural Habitat: Usually found in moist areas in mountains.
Why is it good for my garden? Quaking aspen in a nice tree if you have a lot of space and want a thicket in a moist area. These trees form colonies by cloning themselves through their root system. This tree supports lots of different butterflies and moths.
