Height: This deciduous shrub can grow from 20 to 30 ft. tall.
Habitat: Grows best in moist to dry soil in full to part sun.
Foliage: Oval shaped, finely toothed, green leaves.
Flowers: Small, white, 5 petaled, flowers form in bottle brush shaped clusters and bloom May through July.
Fruits: Red to purple and almost black, edible berries.
Bark: Purplish-gray bark.
Natural Habitat: Found in open areas.
Why is it good for my garden? Chokecherry is a great suckering shrub to fill in areas around your yard. This plant is used by a lot of pollinators, birds, and a host of other animals. Swainson’s Thrush like the cherries on this plant.
