Height: This deciduous shrub can grow up to 3 ft. tall and has thorns.
Habitat: Grows best in dry soil in full to part sun.
Foliage: Small, round, lobed, toothed, green leaves.
Flowers: Small red flowers with white centers bloom in April through June.
Fruits: Showy red to black berries.
Bark: Brown and thorny bark.
Natural Habitat: Found open forests and along dry stream banks.
Why is it good for my garden? Vibrant flowers attact humming birds and other polinators with the bright red color. Fruit also attracts other birds later in the season.
