Native shrub, to 9ft tall. Pair of prickles at base of each leaf, red hips. Tolerant of poor soils. Full to part sun, dry to moist soils.
Height: This rhizomatous, deciduous, shrub can grow to 9 ft. tall.
Habitat: Grows best in moist to dry soil in full to part sun. Tolerates poor soil conditions.
Foliage: Oval shaped, pointed, toothed, green leaves.
Flowers: Bright pink, 5 petal, fragrant flowers bloom one to stem in May through July.
Fruits: Round, dark red rose hips.
Bark: Brown thorny bark.
Natural Habitat: Found in thickets from the shore to the mountains.
Why is it good for my garden? Nootka rose has lovely pink flowers with a fragrant rose smell. Nootka Rose works well as a border plant. Attracts pollinators and other wildlife such a she Varied Thrush who like the berries and seeds of the nootka rose.
