Height: This rhizomatous grass can grow 5 to 8 ft. tall.
Habitat: Grows best in wet to moist soil in full sun.
Foliage: Dark green blades are round and hollow and form in clumps.
Flowers (Inflorescence): Reddish brown flowers bloom May to July.
Fruits: Small seed pods.
Natural Habitat: Found in ponds and lakes and wetlands.
Why is it good for my garden? Hardstem bulrush is a great plant to put around ponds or in wetlands with an upright form and dark green color. This bulrush can be used to help stabilize ground around a stream or pond and is good for erosion control. Many birds and wildlife use this plant for food and habitat.
