Height: This deciduous, rhizomatous, shrub can grow from 3 to 12 ft. tall.
Habitat: Grows best in moist to dry soil in full to part sun. Tolerates drought and flooding.
Foliage: Alternate, oblong, toothed, green leaves that are fuzzy on the underneath side. Leaves turn orange in fall.
Flowers: Small, bright pink flowers, bloom in clusters and many clusters form an bottle brush shaped larger flower cluster that blooms June through August.
Bark: Reddish brown stems turn brown as they mature.
Natural Habitat: Found from moist forest to rocky slopes. Locally, this plant usually is found growing in ditches.
Why is it good for my garden? Hardhack is a great plant for any soil type. Grows fast, has beautiful flowers and pretty fall color. This plant brings in pollinators.
