Height: This rhizomatous, perennial can grow from 3 to 10 ft. tall.
Habitat: Grows best in wet to well drained soil in full sun. Can grow under water and is salt tolerant.
Foliage: Long, thick, lance shaped, leaves or blades.
Flowers: Dark brown, long, tube shaped spikes with no petals, that when old can turn to cotton like fluff bloom June through July.
Natural Habitat: Found in marshes, ponds, and rivers.
Why is it good for my garden? If you have a wet area of a pond cattails make a pretty texture and structure to add. All parts of this plant are edible. This plant is loved by birds for the seeds.
